Biography:

Giuseppe Aureli (Rome 1858 - Anzio 1929) in 1881 was a pupil, in Rome, of Pietro Gabrini (despite being the same age) and of Cesare Maccari who directed him towards historical subjects. He took part in various exhibitions after his debut in Naples in 1883. In 1894 he began to exhibit at the invitation of the Association of Roman Watercolourists and was part of the Association from 1900; he continued to exhibit until 1926.

His work La contessina - La toilette dans le XVIII siècle, from 1903, is preserved in the Municipal Gallery of Modern and Contemporary Art in Rome. He had a studio in via Margutta, next to that of two other orientalist painters, Nazzareno Cipriani and Enrico Tarenghi.
